About St. Patrick Parish

St. Patrick Parish is a vibrant, faith-filled community of 1,500+ families committed to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. Established over 130 years ago by Irish and German immigrants, our parish is sustained today by generations of those founding families and newer members who come together to worship and to serve God, each other and the greater Portland community.

Located in Portland, Michigan, the city of two rivers, St. Patrick Parish is unique in that it is the only Parish in the Grand Rapids Diocese to operate a pre-school and a DK - 12th grade Catholic School.

History

July 14, 1878, Fr. Charles G. Bolte of Ionia was authorized by Bishop Borgess of Detroit to build a church in Portland. In the late 1870's we hear of the Moriartys, the Millers, the Mathews, the Siebels, the Lawlesses, the Mannings, the Sondays, the Kilmartins and others. They were probably some of the original Irish settlers and they named the new church after the great apostle of Ireland.  More information.....

Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council is the visioning and planning body for the pastoral and spiritual concerns of the parish. It strives to identify the needs of the parish, studies, prays and reflects upon those needs, makes recommendations and plans as to how those needs can be met, and evaluates the ministerial efforts of the parish.

Anyone who is a registered member of the parish and actively participating in the Catholic Faith is eligible for consideration as a member of the Pastoral Council.  Please see the St. Patrick Stewardship and Ministry book for more details.
